Colorado XXI

Thornton lies about 11 miles north of Denver and is the home to the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center. On the center's grounds stands the Veterans Memorial.

Built in sections the memorial consists of a pentagonal base, an obelisk, several flags and is surrounded by pavers honoring many.

A statue, named Grace, was donated by the artist and stands near by.

Grace is an angel who is releasing a dove towards the heavens. The dove carries the dog tags of a fallen solder. Unfortunately, the tags are now missing, but part of the chain can be seen around the birds neck.

Inside the Aquatic Center are plaques to the fallen from the immediate area: 4 of whom were lost in Vietnam, I will write more on those at a later time.

The memorial which is to have additions made to it may be found at Trail Winds Park at 5130 E. 139th Street.

Next we will revisit Connecticut, so join me there, at 9:00am on the 8th.
