(I have since learned that it has, in fact been built and I hope to get to Ennis in the future to see it.)</p><p style="text-align: left;">*I have just learned from my friend Declan Hughes of Irish Veterans, Kinsale, Co. Cork, Ireland that the actual number has grown to 32. Declan is the man previously mentioned in my post about The Wall coming to Ireland and researching the names of the Irish heroes lost in 'Nam. I wrote a long post about this and you can read it <a href="http://michaelfwalsh.blogspot.com/2018/12/virginia.html">here</a>. Declan has been a wonderful source of information for me as I pursued this topic. Thank you, Declan!<br /></p><p style="text-align: left;">Here are the 30 names of Irish lost on the memorial at Ennis. <br /></p><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: left;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3Q5-0SpapeDJBikcQoFs1g05arHBzuMJtU1cnxZDKv8zGDNW7QgQkIX4VlvemSSlom4QQiQZdc84D9pyzRlyXCkIrzQBSJVcHnDSFVXlaEbUmD06aWbEhHPzeoLmvO0wHCzB1etRmHAjqhGV-3__24u9BvflkifwUR6fEmCK93ZE3bttKNSUVyWB8hw/s1459/Enniseditblog-1.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1459" data-original-width="1024" height="570" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3Q5-0SpapeDJBikcQoFs1g05arHBzuMJtU1cnxZDKv8zGDNW7QgQkIX4VlvemSSlom4QQiQZdc84D9pyzRlyXCkIrzQBSJVcHnDSFVXlaEbUmD06aWbEhHPzeoLmvO0wHCzB1etRmHAjqhGV-3__24u9BvflkifwUR6fEmCK93ZE3bttKNSUVyWB8hw/w402-h570/Enniseditblog-1.jpg" width="402" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Photo used by permission of Irish Vietnam Memorial Project<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p style="text-align: left;"></p><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: left;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="No photo description available." class="x1bwycvy x193iq5w x4fas0m x19kjcj4" data-visualcompletion="media-vc-image" height="596" src="https://scontent-iad3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.6435-9/75394768_2654641507929059_909195807209553920_n.jpg?_nc_cat=103&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=5f2048&_nc_ohc=laZoIWjG-1YAX_97NV5&_nc_ht=scontent-iad3-2.xx&oh=00_AfD2UVoVJppNZ031CQyvg-XjZO3aSPG8jlRDRlf3ZJjO0Q&oe=661AE9CC" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="447" /></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Photo used by permission of Irish Vietnam Memorial Project<br /></td></tr></tbody></table><p style="text-align: center;"> <br /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>

For all the hype and my high (yet, untested expectations,) it did not go well.</p><p>First, the driver could not seem to negotiate the access road to the building I was in front of. He missed the entrance more than once, but eventually figured it out.</p><p>So, OK, I told him where I was going and off we went. So far, so good.</p><p>I gave very specific instructions as to where I needed to go, so when he pulled into a parking area and said, pointed ahead of the car and said " I don't know exactly where it is, but it is in there, a local park.</p><p>Well, fine. I started to walk around the park, looking for signs or any indication of where the memorial might be. Nothing. I started asking strangers if they knew of the memorial and to a person they did not.</p><p>Finally, a very nice couple walking their dogs pulled out phones and spent quite some time trying to help. We got a rough estimation of the location and off I went. I was (and am) very grateful.</p><p>The distance was well over a mile away from where this guy dropped me off. I had popped my Plantar Fascia that day which had really slowed me down. I arrived on the south side of Denver just as twilight was beginning. As is so often the case, my directions to the exact spot were somewhat weak, but then I saw it. In a parking lot that seemed to belong to a Costco, it stood.</p><p>Located in what is known as "Little Saigon" it is a tribute to all who tried to save South Vietnam. It was kind of interesting because every sign, bright neon, was in Vietnamese, row after row of stores and businesses.</p><p>By the time I parked and gather my camera it was nearly too dark to proceed, but not knowing when, or if, I would ever get back to Denver, I took my chances.</p><p>These are just a couple of shots from the site, I expect to post more at a future time.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKEmqGlrm4woi50p54Xj5dXXDDSU0z_8DjU-hAkqODn8L40jFeBu-cWjtLHATGWTvLdQW7c5mDlsHABfLLKkHo47ccjq3qnn61q_Ez1FbpK5TMlJwoPqedZyFzBmsbRHtZYXzY3PA3IJk-8G9E4QJNCQeqhCJVT4t6gw4t7CLfbye-8QsxPyOUaIVUrQ/s1024/IMG_2957editblog.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1024" height="429" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKEmqGlrm4woi50p54Xj5dXXDDSU0z_8DjU-hAkqODn8L40jFeBu-cWjtLHATGWTvLdQW7c5mDlsHABfLLKkHo47ccjq3qnn61q_Ez1FbpK5TMlJwoPqedZyFzBmsbRHtZYXzY3PA3IJk-8G9E4QJNCQeqhCJVT4t6gw4t7CLfbye-8QsxPyOUaIVUrQ/w489-h429/IMG_2957editblog.jpg" width="489" /></a></div><p></p><p>An American and a Vietnamese soldier stand together in defense of the country.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvtUQ-VDiK9zuxaX9FZgY3z0EiOiDymjCHvbabK8jJ0b_J7shv6aAflFSDFV_HE6zv6BEgP-kcocLzz2E88dW7C0DxVsSOzzQYl1V0xVlyIlBBbUUkgY34UpXVXpPy9VksdQvufri70B4K8e3EYEm7Z0i6CtA0R1gE0dVr-QrlH0pk9vVMowX5Jeb21w/s1480/IMG_2959editblog.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1480" data-original-width="1024" height="500" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvtUQ-VDiK9zuxaX9FZgY3z0EiOiDymjCHvbabK8jJ0b_J7shv6aAflFSDFV_HE6zv6BEgP-kcocLzz2E88dW7C0DxVsSOzzQYl1V0xVlyIlBBbUUkgY34UpXVXpPy9VksdQvufri70B4K8e3EYEm7Z0i6CtA0R1gE0dVr-QrlH0pk9vVMowX5Jeb21w/w345-h500/IMG_2959editblog.jpg" width="345" /></a></div><p></p><p>No names are listed here except the small silver colored plaques on the right that thank various donors and supporters.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-Jfy7OviREb9ofjHAoge3sWf7G4JaUYsl4OBYonVAd0CLzRzLb3NL7NNJuldBaOBFbp2UOcwa2xTEGY5Eo4_JSk8x2VljV63XdezrqLxImd6l9cngawHAUpwKPSr8EzDgZkLrU5oyyYCD5EpCcC1-yCRl_Bg8YxS6ug8VHFczqSCnCiiDLqkY5PFF_A/s1024/IMG_2961editblog.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="431" data-original-width="1024" height="227" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-Jfy7OviREb9ofjHAoge3sWf7G4JaUYsl4OBYonVAd0CLzRzLb3NL7NNJuldBaOBFbp2UOcwa2xTEGY5Eo4_JSk8x2VljV63XdezrqLxImd6l9cngawHAUpwKPSr8EzDgZkLrU5oyyYCD5EpCcC1-yCRl_Bg8YxS6ug8VHFczqSCnCiiDLqkY5PFF_A/w537-h227/IMG_2961editblog.jpg" width="537" /></a></div><p></p><p>Other than this plaque, no additional information is provided, but this link will take you to a site that offers some insights.</p><p>https://www.historycolorado.org/story/2023/10/06/cause-freedom-remembering-vietnam-war </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsnPp-moqo1sMJporjcXXdyt-DNmOljqb_LfFGVMFtQs_SYzv19iAnAF4b7hrwrCpBrOktmy9kUJYCsZO1wG0INp_mTmc5lTOqBBJJaOQcaFUDkmELUbDku3_Ii8-5ZIENPOkbPUQQ1Zcb6XItMd6X-G6fvtG8c9cPpnbc0tnv2yN88Ey3gnwRTUf8RA/s1024/IMG_2964editblog.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="683" data-original-width="1024" height="319" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsnPp-moqo1sMJporjcXXdyt-DNmOljqb_LfFGVMFtQs_SYzv19iAnAF4b7hrwrCpBrOktmy9kUJYCsZO1wG0INp_mTmc5lTOqBBJJaOQcaFUDkmELUbDku3_Ii8-5ZIENPOkbPUQQ1Zcb6XItMd6X-G6fvtG8c9cPpnbc0tnv2yN88Ey3gnwRTUf8RA/w480-h319/IMG_2964editblog.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><p></p><p>I include this detail because it matched the head of a cane I purchased while in 'Nam and was wondering if any of you know any information about it. I have made numerous inquiries about how to get there but they all present a number of problems: its distance, the cost to fly, and at one point wild fires in the area. Anyway, I haven't gotten there.</p><p>So, imagine my delight when I heard that Molly Macdonald, a fairly frequent contributor here, was going to be in the area.</p><p>I asked her if she visited to forward some pics to me.</p><p>She very kindly did. So, today I want to share just a couple of them with you and over time several more.</p><p>The Garden honors many from Korea and Vietnam and more generally war itself. and unsurprisingly, I will focus on Vietnam.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoKBTA1EK45IXFw1quC3KHhrXEYe0bIKOfeX_qmrZfPJaXHRwvo7GNn3AIvBPP8JHL4R9Akl2zzYIf7AljBdv5hNCkwQGdDy9ONU3EcXCwCqASAMvWjYvIzEhEpcAvMuUpFyLe4k0J9bl43B9-a8qHlVvc5pdkqo1w_Vtil-U7QJ8w8p6b-V8TBRKUbg/s1024/image19BAeditblog.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="942" data-original-width="1024" height="423" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoKBTA1EK45IXFw1quC3KHhrXEYe0bIKOfeX_qmrZfPJaXHRwvo7GNn3AIvBPP8JHL4R9Akl2zzYIf7AljBdv5hNCkwQGdDy9ONU3EcXCwCqASAMvWjYvIzEhEpcAvMuUpFyLe4k0J9bl43B9-a8qHlVvc5pdkqo1w_Vtil-U7QJ8w8p6b-V8TBRKUbg/w460-h423/image19BAeditblog.jpg" width="460" /></a></div><p></p><p>The Garden rests about 13 miles from Weed, very neat Mt. Many times these sites are quite large and have numerous features that deserve to be highlighted. of you, like Mike Minnick, have responded to my request to send me memorials you have seen
in your area or where you may have traveled. These submissions help
expand the knowledge of how we have remembered the men and women who
served or were lost in 'Nam and you help to honor them. If you have any
such photos, I would love to see them. Please send them along to the
email at the left and I will gladly share them here. </p><p></p>Michael F. Walshhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13665268688147184842noreply@blogger.com0
