Connecticut VII

The U.S. Coast Guard served in many ways in Vietnam. the ships, planes and men are all honored with a memorial on the grounds of the Coast Guard Academy in New Haven, Connecticut.

In beautiful Robert Crown Park, just behind the Chapel, stands these two different memorials.

The first, a simple obelisk, names the various encoubters of the Coast Guard serving our country.

Detail

The second, a few steps further in, lists those who were lost in 'Nam.

I think that sometimes it is easy to overlook the contributions, valor and bravery of our brothers and sisters in the Coast Guard, but they, too were there, served with honor and some were lost. My family is steeped in Coast Guard tradition and I am delighted to be able to share this site with you and honor their service.

Next time, we will return to Delaware to see a memorial I only just, this month, discovered. Join me in Seaford, as always, at 9:00am, on the 13th, to check it out.
