Massachusetts XX

I have whined repeatedly about not being on the road for more than a year now and, therefore, having to search high and low for something to write about.

I found just a couple of pics from Middleboro, Massachusetts and thought I would share them.

Middleboro has quite a nice Veterans memorial and I have shared the appropriate parts of it with you in the past. You can find those posts elsewhere on this site. The site is covered in dedication bricks but it is a bit unusual to find one to a Vietnamese soldier, let alone a POW. 

 

 

The next pic is the final one, I think, from this site. It seems to have been overlooked previously so I am glad that I came across it in my search as it clearly honors generations of service to our country.

Massachusetts XVII

We have visited Middleboro before, but in looking through some files I saw some additional pics that I hope you you might find interesting.

There are two Blue Spruce trees planted here, one for a WWI soldier and one for a Vietnam brother. His name was Wayne Caron and he was wounded three times while trying to save other soldiers, before he was finally killed.  They are both Meal of Honor recipients and each has a tree dedicated to him.

A little beyond the spruce is this marker for era vets. The following pic is a bit unusual as it calls itself an "Era" memorial but lists the names and sites where several were lost.

Massachusetts V

Middleboro lies about 40 miles south of Boston, and on Main Street, on the Town Hall lawn, is a memorial to all those who have given their lives or served in our country's wars.

It is quite a beautiful place and consists of a number of memorials. There are at least three to Vietnam and at some point I will post about them all.

Today, I will concentrate on the major memorial on the site.

This, the largest of the memorials here, has been around for quite some time although I have been unsuccessful at determining exactly when it was placed.

 Those from our war seem to have been added at some later time than the original WWI and WWII.

This flag pole which was added when the park was expanded and improved recently, stands in the middle of a large circle made of bricks. The bricks bear the names of and honor many from various wars.

This is a beautiful remembrance to so many and very worth the time if you happen to be in the area. You could easily spend quite a while seeing the varied memorials here. It is located on South Main Street between Rock Street and Webster Street. As I mentioned above, I will post more of the interesting components of this site sometime in the near future.
